First High Criminal Court of Appeal has upheld a one-year prison sentence against a 33-year-old Bahraini man convicted of setting fire to a palm tree and attempting to burn a vehicle following a dispute linked to narcotics.
The court also ordered the defendant to pay BD100 in compensation for damages.
According to prosecutors, the man went to the victim’s home carrying a bottle of kerosene and a lighter after ongoing disputes with the victim’s son over the sale and trafficking of drugs.
Investigators said the defendant arrived on a bicycle and poured kerosene on a palm tree outside the house before setting it ablaze. The victim discovered the fire after being alerted by his maid and managed to extinguish it using a water hose before authorities were contacted.
