Bahrain Welcomes Yemen Detainee Exchange Agreement Brokered in Jordan

The Kingdom of Bahrain has welcomed the signing of a detainee exchange agreement between Yemeni parties in Amman, describing the deal as an important humanitarian step toward easing suffering and advancing peace efforts in Yemen.

In a statement issued by Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom said the agreement was facilitated by the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with support from Jordan.

Bahrain said the agreement represents meaningful progress in efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and reaffirmed its support for regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive political solution to the conflict.

The ministry stressed that Bahrain remains committed to efforts based on the Gulf Initiative, the outcomes of Yemen’s National Dialogue, and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The statement also emphasized Bahrain’s support for preserving Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while meeting the aspirations of the Yemeni people for lasting peace, security and stability.

The detainee exchange agreement comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and revive negotiations after years of conflict that has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
