Plans to build a mosque on part of a public park in Dumistan have been put on hold after the Northern Municipal Council moved to seek a reconsideration of the decision.
The council reviewed a response from the Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture rejecting a proposal to allocate part of the park for a mosque under the Jaafari Endowments Directorate.
The proposal had been submitted following residents’ requests and was previously approved unanimously by the council. The ministry cited a national policy prioritising the preservation of green spaces and the expansion of public parks.
Council member Zainab Al-Durazi said members would formally request a review backed by a detailed report on the area’s growing need for a mosque.
Eight-year delay for dialysis centre plan
A proposed kidney dialysis centre in Al-Hajar remains stalled nearly eight years after it was first raised, as the Northern Municipal Council renews calls for its implementation.
The council reviewed the Ministry of Health's response regarding a proposal to allocate two health-designated plots for the facility, this request, first submitted in 2018, is still pending despite available land.
Council member Abdullah Mubarak Bilal Al Qubaisi criticised the lack of action, stating that repeated discussions had failed to produce tangible results, with progress limited to correspondence. The council said it would continue coordinating with relevant authorities, describing the project as urgent to improve access to treatment.
