Plans to upgrade key roads leading to Bahrain International Airport could see the removal of one of Muharraq’s most recognisable landmarks.
The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture has asked the Muharraq Municipal Council to review and approve the removal of the falcon monument at the Falcon Interchange, as part of the ongoing road development scheme. In a letter to the council, the ministry urged members to study the engineering designs and share their views before construction starts.
The wider project aims to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and enhance access to the airport terminal and nearby facilities. It is also expected to reduce pressure on major routes such as Arad Highway and Shaikh Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway, while supporting infrastructure growth in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
Phase 3A of the scheme focuses on the Falcon Interchange and includes a full reconstruction of the junction, along with upgrades to parts of Arad Highway and Shaikh Khalifa Al Kabeer Highway.
