A man in his 30s received a two-year prison sentence from the High Criminal Court after being found guilty of causing a fatal traffic accident that also left several others injured.

The court allowed bail of 500 Bahraini dinars to suspend the execution of the sentence. The case dates back to an early morning incident on a public road, when a disabled vehicle had stopped in the emergency lane due to a flat tyre. Another car had pulled over ahead of it to offer assistance, while pedestrians were also present at the scene.

According to case details, the defendant suddenly veered into the emergency lane without taking proper precautions. His vehicle first collided with the stopped cars and struck pedestrians who were assisting at the scene.

The impact caused serious consequences, with one pedestrian trapped between vehicles and others injured.

The defendant’s car continued moving after the initial collision, hitting another vehicle carrying passengers before spinning several times and eventually stopping against the direction of traffic.

One pedestrian died at the scene, while another person sustained injuries.

The Public Prosecution charged the defendant with causing death and injury due to negligence, as well as reckless driving, crossing the yellow line, and endangering the lives of road users. He was also held responsible for damage to both public and private property.

Investigations revealed that the accident occurred around 4:20 a.m. The defendant admitted he was driving at a speed between 80 and 100 km/h and was distracted while watching another vehicle in a different lane. He said he attempted to change lanes, glanced at his side mirror, and then heard a loud impact before losing control of the vehicle.

He further stated that the airbags deployed during the crash and that he only realized the full extent of the incident after the vehicle came to a stop.
