Human security in Bahrain is about keeping people safe while upholding their rights and dignity, Shura Council member Ali Al Shehabi said, arguing that the idea runs well beyond force or military defence.

Speaking to Bahrain TV, Al Shehabi said Bahrain’s approach to human security “puts people first”, linking safety, dignity and basic rights in times of strain and outside attack.

He said security and rights should not be treated as opposing aims.

Vision

“The Kingdom of Bahrain adopts a conscious vision that emphasises that rights and responsibilities are two sides of the same coin,” he said.

Al Shehabi said public awareness remains the first line of defence, helping people stay calm, sort fact from falsehood and act with a sense of duty when pressure rises.

“In fact, community awareness has proven to be the first line of defence in promoting respect for rights and commitment to responsibilities,” he said.

Response

He praised Bahrainis for what he described as a measured response to current strains, saying the public had shown good sense and had refused to be dragged along by rumours.

Al Shehabi said citizens were not passive onlookers but active partners in upholding rights and keeping order.

He urged people to get their information from trusted sources such as Bahrain TV and the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), rather than from misleading messages meant to shake confidence and stir confusion.

Rights

“The conscious society is one that realises that safeguarding rights begins with commitment to responsibilities,” he said.

The lawmaker said that public conduct showed a clear grasp of a simple point: protecting rights cannot be cut off from protecting the country, and an aware public remains a key part of that effort.
