Psychiatric review ordered in drug parcel appeal

A Bahraini housewife jailed for 10 years after a drugfilled parcel was found hidden among sweets and food from Europe is to undergo a psychiatric assessment after her lawyer told the appeal court she had been in treatment for 25 years.
The Fifth High Criminal Court of Appeal ordered the 46-year-old to be examined to assess her mental state and decide if she was fully answerable for her actions.
The court fixed 18 March for the next hearing.
She is appealing against a court ruling, which jailed her for 10 years, fined her BD5,000 and ordered the seized items to be confiscated.
