RIYADH: The Saudi Ministry of Defence announced that its air defense systems successfully neutralized a hostile drone attempting to reach the high-security Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh, which houses various foreign embassies.
"Two enemy drones were shot down while attempting to approach the embassy district," a defence ministry spokesperson posted on X, this incident coincided with additional interceptions in the country's eastern region, including a specialized operation to destroy three drones targeting the Shaybah oil field.
These coordinated attacks mark a significant escalation in Iran's retaliatory campaign against oil-rich Gulf states, following a series of joint US-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory that began in late February.
