Shura chairman backs Kingdom right to defend itself against Iran aggression

Shura Council chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh opened yesterday’s sitting by condemning Iran’s missile and drone attack on Bahrain, and backing the Kingdom’s response and its right to defend itself under international law.
At the start of the session, Al Saleh said the strike on Bahrain and other Gulf states was “a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of states” and “a grave threat to the security and stability of the region”.
He said the Council stood behind His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and backed the steps taken to protect Bahrain’s security, sovereignty and the safety of citizens and residents.
He said Bahrain retained “its legitimate right to respond in accordance with international laws and conventions”.
Royal care
Al Saleh also praised HM the King’s close watch on developments in the region, saying it showed the leadership’s care for readiness and for the country’s safety and stability.
He said Bahrain would stick to peace, dialogue and coexistence, while retaining its rights.
The lawmaker praised His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for leading this stage “with wisdom and ability’”, raising the readiness of state bodies and keeping basic services running.
Cost
He also welcomed the order by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for the government to cover the cost of repairing homes damaged in the attack.
Al Saleh said the move showed direct care for citizens’ safety and support for them in hard times.
The chairman praised the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) for repelling the attack “with high efficiency and constant vigilance”.
He also thanked the Interior Ministry and other security bodies for keeping public order and reassuring people, while praising the media for reporting accurate information and the ministries and state bodies for meeting essential needs. Unity Al Saleh said Bahrainis had shown “an honourable picture of national unity” during the attack, rallying behind their leadership and showing that Bahrain’s real strength lay in “the unity of its people and the cohesion of its national fabric”.
He urged citizens and residents to follow instructions from the authorities, check information before sharing it and avoid rumours.
“We stress the importance of taking news from official sources,” he said.
