U.S. President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that any decision to end the war with Iran would be “mutual” and made in consultation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an interview with The Times of Israel, Trump said, “I think the decision is joint… to some extent. We have been talking, and I will make the decision at the right time, but everything will be taken into account.” He added that while Netanyahu would provide advice, the final decision would rest with the U.S. President.
Trump also addressed whether Israel might continue the conflict after the United States stops its strikes, stating, “I don’t think that will be necessary.”
Although Trump avoided giving a specific timeline for the war, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt noted on Friday that Washington expects the conflict to last between four and six weeks.
The U.S. and Israel launched a major military operation against Iran on February 28, targeting key Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Revolutionary Guard commander Mohammad Pakpour, and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi, all reportedly killed in the strikes.
In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced a broad retaliatory operation, firing missiles and drones at Israeli targets and targeting U.S. military bases in the region.
