Manama: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing developments affecting the Kingdom of Bahrain, particularly incidents involving attacks attributed to Iran that have targeted the country’s security and territorial safety.
In a statement, the institution said the situation poses a direct threat to the safety of both citizens and residents.
The NIHR stressed that the protection of the right to life, personal security, and physical safety is a fundamental right guaranteed by Bahrain’s Constitution and international human rights agreements to which the kingdom is a party.
It added that any attack that targets civilians or puts them at risk represents a serious violation of international law, especially the principles of international humanitarian law, which strictly prohibit targeting civilian populations and civilian facilities under any circumstances.
The institution also praised the efforts of state authorities during these exceptional circumstances. It highlighted the comprehensive measures taken to protect citizens and residents and to strengthen security and stability.
According to the statement, these actions reflect a high level of professionalism and responsibility, based on the rule of law and respect for human rights standards, while maintaining a balance between national security requirements and the protection of public rights and freedoms.
The NIHR called on all citizens and residents to remain aware and act responsibly by fully adhering to instructions issued by relevant authorities and cooperating with official bodies to help safeguard lives, property, and public stability.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all efforts that enhance the safety and security of society. It also confirmed that it will continue its monitoring and advisory role within its legal mandate to ensure the protection of human rights under all circumstances
