Diplomats Join Language Celebration in Bahrain
The Bangladesh Embassy in Bahrain celebrated International Mother Language Day on 24 February at the Arab Open University auditorium in A'ali. The event was organized under the Embassy’s supervision with support from the United Nations in Bahrain, Arab Open University, and Colours of the East art gallery.
The ceremony was chaired by H.E. Ambassador Md. Rais Hasan Sarower, ndc, with attendance from ambassadors, diplomats, senior government officials, business leaders, journalists, teachers, students, and members of the Bangladeshi community in Bahrain. H.E. Muneera Nofal Al Doseri, Executive Director of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, attended as Guest of Honour, alongside other distinguished guests including the UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain and Dr. Najma Taqi, President of Arab Open University.
The programme opened with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an and a video message from UNESCO. Ambassador Sarower paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Bangla language and highlighted the global significance of International Mother Language Day. He encouraged young Bangladeshis living abroad to continue valuing their mother tongue.
The cultural segment featured poetry recitations by ambassadors and senior diplomats in their mother languages, including participants from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal, Russia, and the USA.
Earlier in February, the Embassy held an art competition for schoolchildren across Bahrain. Winners in the junior and senior categories received crests and certificates during the event. The programme concluded with the inauguration of an art exhibition featuring over 70 student artworks, followed by Ambassador Sarower expressing gratitude to all attendees and contributors.
