Smart Maps Launched at Grand Mosque and Prophet’s Mosque
The CEO of the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Eng. Ghazi Al-Shahrani, has launched a smart interactive map system at the Two Holy Mosques, marking a major step forward in visitor guidance.
Al-Shahrani said the system represents a significant advancement in spatial guidance, helping visitors and Umrah pilgrims navigate safely and efficiently. The maps provide real-time information and updated routes to enhance mobility and overall visitor experience.
“This initiative is part of the authority’s digital transformation efforts,” Al-Shahrani added. “The interactive maps use live data linked to operations rooms to guide visitors through the best routes during congestion or temporary closures.”
Dr. Mohammed Al-Saqr, Executive Vice President of Digital Transformation at the authority, explained that the pilot phase began during Ramadan and integrates a color-coded and metric addressing system, dividing the mosques into clear zones.
The system includes over 950 points of interest across 13 service categories, supported by more than 650 QR codes. It can generate over 100,000 dynamic routes, automatically optimized according to crowd movement, representing the first stage of a multi-year development project.
