Four Charged After Dating App Robbery

Suspects lured a 35-year-old man before assaulting him and stealing his electric bike

Four young men aged between 16 and 19 have been charged with robbing a 35-year-old Asian man after allegedly luring him through a dating app.

According to Public Prosecution investigations, the victim was riding his electric bike on a public road on June 17 when the defendants stopped him, assaulted him and searched his pocket. They also asked him to open his BenefitPay account.

After he refused, the defendants allegedly assaulted him again, stole his electric bike and fled. A medical report confirmed that the victim sustained injuries.

One defendant told investigators that he had agreed with the others to lure the victim to the location through a dating app. The third and fourth defendants also admitted assaulting the victim, while all four acknowledged their involvement in the incident.

The High Criminal Court First Circuit adjourned the case until September 1 to appoint lawyers for the defendants, receive social and psychological reports for three of them and hear the defence submissions. Their detention will continue.
