Public Prosecution investigates deadly Salmabad apartment fire

The Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into a residential apartment fire in Salmabad that claimed the lives of four family members on 18 August.

The Northern Governorate Chief Prosecutor said the Public Prosecution received a report from the Northern Governorate Police Directorate about the incident and immediately began investigating.

Prosecutors visited the fire scene and conducted the necessary inspection before examining the bodies at Salmaniya Medical Complex.

The Crime Scene team and a forensic doctor were assigned to conduct the required technical and medical examinations. A preliminary examination found that the victims died from suffocation.

The Public Prosecution ordered that the bodies be handed over to their families and tasked Civil Defence with preparing a technical report to establish the fire's cause.

Investigators were also ordered to carry out all necessary procedures, while the apartment remains under precautionary custody pending the investigation's completion.

The Chief Prosecutor said the investigation remains ongoing to establish the fire's circumstances, details and cause, and to determine the necessary legal measures based on the findings of the investigation and technical reports.
