Bahrain Condemns Israeli Strikes on Syria

 

US envoy calls Abu al-Duhur strikes an unnecessary escalation

Bahrain has strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria’s Idlib Governorate, describing the attack as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a breach of international law and the UN Charter.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, stressing the need to halt escalation and respect the sovereignty of states.

US envoy for Syria Tom Barrack confirmed that Israel carried out the strikes on the disused air base, describing them as an “unnecessary escalation” that would not contribute to regional stability.

Barrack called on all parties to prioritise dialogue and avoid further military incidents.

The strikes also drew a response from Turkey, which rejected Israeli allegations that Ankara posed a threat by preparing to deploy troops to a Syrian base. The facility was reportedly targeted in the Israeli strike.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions over security arrangements in Syria. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel and Syria had agreed on a security status quo that Damascus was reportedly close to breaching by allowing Turkish troops to deploy at an airbase near Aleppo.
