The Head of the Prosecution for Ministries and Public Entities announced that the Public Prosecution is investigating a case involving the possession and sale of expired food products after altering their expiry dates.
Eight defendants have been remanded in custody pending investigation. Authorities also ordered the closure of the company’s warehouse and several of its affiliated retail outlets.
The case began after a report was received indicating that a company was storing expired food items at a warehouse in Hamala, where expiry dates were being changed and products repackaged for resale in the market.
Inspection teams from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of Health raided the warehouse and seized expired food products that had been repackaged and relabeled for distribution.
The Public Prosecution questioned the suspects and ordered their detention pending further investigation. Authorities have also tasked officials with inventorying the seized goods and identifying any similar products in circulation. Investigations are ongoing ahead of referring the case to criminal court.
