With the countdown to the Holy Month of Ramadan officially beginning, life is bustling in markets and kitchens alike.

Only ten days separate us from the most beautiful thirty nights of the year.Families have already begun shaping their menus—not just to satisfy hunger, but to revive authentic social and traditional rituals.

The Ramadan table is never complete without Sambousa, Luqaimat, Thareed, Vimto, and dates.

The Ramadan table is never complete without a platter of golden (Sambousa) taking center stage.

It is the one dish fasting people never tire of throughout the month.

Sambousa

Since most families prepare Sambousa exclusively during Ramadan, the “freezing race” has already begun.

Pastry sheets are being stuffed with seasoned minced meat or cheeses and carefully frozen to be ready for daily frying, a ritual of early preparation that saves time for worship.

Despite the short time remaining, the image of golden “Luqaimat” (Sweet Dumplings) is already dancing in the minds of the fasting.

These airy, golden spheres, fried with love, become the stars of the gathering after Maghrib prayers. Their deliciousness is only complete when drizzled with date syrup or honey.

Thareed

If every table has a king, then Thareed is the main course of the Ramadan table.

This dish combines pieces of thin Regag bread with salona — a rich tomato-based stew made with meat and a variety of seasonal vegetables, delicately flavoured with the traditional spice mix known as Bezar.

Thareed is more than just a meal; it is an ancient heritage that brings young and old together for an unforgettable Iftar.

Essentials

In parallel with kitchen preparations, grocery stores are crowded with shoppers securing essentials that no table can do without. “Vimto” bottles with their famous deep red color, boxes of premium dates, and Luqaimat flour mixes top the shopping lists.

These products have become visual symbols that officially announce the approaching Holy Month, completing the elegance of the Ramadan table.
