MP Seeks Checks on Institute Licences
An urgent call has been made for checks on education institutes over their licences, fee collection and the way some commercial registrations are being run.
MP Basema Mubarak asked the relevant authorities to examine the legal status of a number of institutes, the type of teaching they provide and whether it matches the terms of their licences.
She also wants checks on who actually runs some of the businesses, who collects fees and issues receipts, and how commercial registrations owned by Bahrainis are being used.
One case concerns an institute in Arad. Mubarak asked for its teaching activity to be checked against its licence and for the authorities to establish who is actually running it.
She also wants those collecting fees and issuing receipts checked, including whether they are authorised to do so and are following the rules governing the business.
Another institute in Muharraq Governorate is also covered by the request. Mubarak called for its premises to be inspected, its licence checked and its activity examined to see if it meets legal and technical rules.
She also wants the fees themselves examined, including how they are collected, how receipts are issued and whether the sums collected relate to activities covered by the licences.
Mubarak also raised questions over reports that commercial registrations owned by Bahraini citizens are being used or managed on behalf of others.
Any such arrangements, including payments linked to them, should be checked against Bahrain’s laws and rules, she said.
Mubarak stressed that she was asking for checks, not accusing any person or business of wrongdoing.
‘The matters raised are requests for examination and verification and do not amount to a judgment or conviction of any person or body,’ she told The Daily Tribune.
She added that any action should be based on findings by the relevant authorities and taken through the legal process.
Mubarak said the aim was to establish that the businesses were working within the law and their licence terms, with legal action taken where a breach is proved.
