Customs seizes 12 tonnes of tobacco in 2025

Manama: Customs officers seized 58,996 bags of tobacco weighing 12.234 tonnes in 2025, as Ministry of Interior figures pointed to a busy year for border checks, emergency calls, sea rescues and online reports.
The ministry said the same drive led to the confiscation of 528 prohibited tools and the seizure of 10,591 counterfeit items. Screening teams detected 286 cases through X-ray machines, while K9 dogs were used in 98 drug seizures. On land, the operations room and emergency patrols dealt with 29,178 reports during the year.
Security cases made up 5 per cent, traffic cases 34 per cent, and other response calls 61 per cent, according to the data.
