A court has ordered a lawyer to pay BD1,000 to a sitting MP after finding he defamed him in an Instagram video.
The High Civil Court said the sum was compensation for moral harm.
It also ordered the lawyer to pay court costs and BD100 in lawyers’ fees.
The dispute centres on a recorded clip posted on Instagram in 2025, in which the lawyer spoke about the MP and claimed he had attended an unlawful gathering.
Court documents said the account had about 25,000 followers. The MP filed a criminal complaint and the matter was sent to the Public Prosecution.
