Cyprus President: Partnership with Bahrain Supports Regional Peace and Maritime Security

President Nikos Christodoulides of the Republic of Cyprus noted that Cyprus and Bahrain share a convergent approach in supporting lasting peace in the Middle East and coordinating on regional security challenges, including maritime safety and the protection of critical trade routes. He highlighted ongoing bilateral consultations, citing regular meetings between the two countries’ foreign ministers and national security advisors to strengthen cooperation on maritime security, critical infrastructure protection, and future transport connectivity.

In a special interview with the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) during his official visit to the Kingdom, President Christodoulides also expressed his deep appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for their continuous support in enhancing bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.

The Cypriot president emphasized that both Bahrain and Cyprus are strategically located financial hubs with significant expertise in financial services, complemented by rapidly expanding fintech sectors and innovative financial products. He also highlighted the importance of consultation with Bahrain, particularly during the Kingdom’s non-permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council.

President Christodoulides underscored the significance of the European–Gulf partnership in addressing political, economic, and security challenges, especially in energy security, maritime safety, trade, and people-to-people dialogue. He reaffirmed Cyprus’ commitment to supporting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) interests within the European Union, promoting peace in the Middle East, and safeguarding vital maritime routes that underpin regional stability and prosperity.

On investment and business opportunities, President Christodoulides highlighted that Cyprus offers strategic access to the EU market, a network of trade agreements, and competitive incentives for investors. Bahrain, in turn, provides a gateway for Cypriot fintech companies to expand within the GCC. Economic forecasts for Cyprus in 2025–2026 indicate stable growth, strong fiscal surpluses, and reduced public debt, reinforcing confidence for international investors.

Concluding the interview, President Christodoulides reaffirmed his commitment to further deepen bilateral cooperation, enhance people-to-people ties, and strengthen the strategic partnership between Bahrain and the European Union. He also praised Bahrain’s support for the Cypriot community, which has become an integral part of the Kingdom’s social and economic fabric.
