Bahrain, Azerbaijan Seek to Strengthen Parliamentary and Bilateral Cooperation
Chairman of the Shura Council, His Excellency Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, affirmed Bahrain’s continued efforts to deepen cooperation and strengthen existing bilateral partnerships with the Republic of Azerbaijan, particularly in the parliamentary and legislative fields, in a manner that serves the shared interests of the two friendly nations.
He praised the strong and longstanding relations between Bahrain and Azerbaijan, noting the continuous support and attention these ties receive from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
The remarks were made during a meeting held on Sunday, where the Shura Council Chairman received Her Excellency Professor Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, in the presence of First Deputy Chairman Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, members of the Council’s Bureau, and the Secretary-General of the Shura Council.
Al Saleh welcomed Speaker Gafarova and her accompanying delegation, commending her keenness to visit Bahrain and participate in the 16th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, hosted by the Kingdom from January 24 to 28.
He highlighted the steady growth of Bahraini-Azerbaijani relations across various sectors and praised the continued signing of memoranda of understanding and joint agreements between the two countries. He also pointed to promising opportunities for cooperation in health, environmental, digital, and tourism sectors, noting the increasing activity in tourism exchanges between the two nations.
The Shura Council Chairman emphasized Bahrain’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan through parliamentary exchanges and broader development initiatives, underscoring the Kingdom’s dedication to peace, dialogue, and mutual respect in its relations with friendly countries.
He further commended Azerbaijan’s ongoing development and its significant role in hosting regional and Asian parliamentary conferences.
For her part, Speaker Gafarova expressed her pride in visiting Bahrain and thanked the Kingdom for the warm hospitality extended to her and her delegation. She stressed Azerbaijan’s eagerness to expand cooperation and elevate bilateral relations to broader horizons, noting that the strong support of both countries’ leaderships provides a solid foundation for advancing joint development goals.
She also praised the efforts of the Shura Council Chairman and members in strengthening bilateral parliamentary ties and emphasized the importance of continued mutual parliamentary visits. Speaker Gafarova extended an official invitation to the Chairman of the Shura Council to visit Azerbaijan to further discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral relations.
