Lebanese Interior Minister Visits Open Prisons Complex

As part of his official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Ahmed Al-Hajjar visited the Open Prisons Complex, accompanied by the Chief of Public Security.

During the visit, officials presented a brief overview of how Bahrain implements alternative sentencing laws, including the mechanisms used to apply these rulings and ongoing efforts to expand the program. The briefing also highlighted rehabilitation and training programs offered to beneficiaries.

The delegation was informed about the facilities and services available at the Open Prisons Complex. The open prisons program was described as a key achievement in Bahrain’s human rights journey, guided by the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The program follows international standards and focuses on rehabilitation and reintegration.

The briefing also covered the objectives of the alternative penalties project and its positive results through educational, training, and reform programs that help rehabilitate inmates and gradually reintegrate them into society.

Minister Al-Hajjar and his accompanying delegation toured the Open Prisons Complex, viewing its modern educational buildings, residential units that provide daily living services, and a sports club, all designed to support comprehensive rehabilitation.

In a related visit, the Lebanese Interior Minister also toured the Royal Police Academy, where he was welcomed by senior police officials. He received a briefing on the academy’s history, academic programs, training fields, and its role in preparing and qualifying security personnel according to the highest international standards.

The minister also visited the security book exhibition showcasing master’s theses and specialized research, and reviewed notable achievements by Ministry of Interior teams. The visit included a field tour of several academy facilities.

At the conclusion of the visits, Minister Al-Hajjar praised the level of development and professionalism he witnessed at both the Royal Police Academy and the Open Prisons Complex, commending the Ministry of Interior’s efforts in maintaining security, enhancing stability, and protecting public safety.
