Manama: The House of Representatives is set to discuss in its upcoming session a proposal to establish a public events hall to serve the residents of Isa Town and surrounding areas. The proposal was submitted by MPs Abdullah Al-Rumaihi, Ali Al-Dosari, Luluah Al-Rumaihi, Mohammed Al-Maarifi and Najib Al-Kuwari.
The initiative aims to provide a dedicated venue for weddings and social occasions, amid growing demand driven by population growth and a shortage of suitable public halls in Isa Town. The Services Committee of the House of Representatives has recommended approval of the proposal, citing the justifications outlined in its explanatory memorandum.
According to the proposal’s sponsors, the establishment of a public events hall would help ease the financial burden on families by reducing reliance on costly private halls. They also noted that such a facility would strengthen social ties and enhance community interaction among residents.
However, government bodies have expressed differing views. The Ministry of Social Development stated that event halls do not fall under its mandate or supervision, noting that most halls across the Kingdom are established by the private sector, civil societies, philanthropists, or are affiliated with places of worship within residential areas.
Meanwhile, the Southern Region Municipal Council rejected the proposal, arguing that Isa Town already has an adequate number of event halls. The council estimated that there are currently 11 halls operating in the area, and therefore saw no need for an additional public facility.
Despite the differing opinions, the proposal calls on the government to study the idea and move forward with its implementation in a manner that serves the social needs of Isa Town residents.
