Manama: The Capital Governorate Prosecution has ordered the pretrial detention of two defendants accused of defrauding customers through fake travel bookings and airline ticket offers, authorities said.

According to the head of the Capital Governorate Prosecution, the Public Prosecution received a report from the Economic Crimes Department under the General Directorate for Combating Corruption, Economic and Electronic Security. The report stated that multiple victims had been deceived by two individuals who promoted attractive travel packages and airline tickets.

Investigations revealed that the defendants had set up a fictitious company and operated an account on the social media platform Instagram, where they posted advertisements and promotional offers aimed at luring victims. Through these means, the suspects allegedly collected money from customers without providing the promised services.

Upon receiving the report, the Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation and issued arrest warrants for the suspects. The two defendants were subsequently arrested, questioned, and confronted with the findings of the police investigation and other evidence in the case file.

The prosecution ordered the defendants to be remanded in custody pending further investigation and instructed police to compile a list of related complaints. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing in preparation for referring the case to criminal trial.
