Mohammed bin Zayed Nature Reserve Reflects Strong Bahrain–UAE Ties
A Royal Order by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to name Al Areen Wildlife Park after His Highness Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, highlights the deep and historic ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UAE.
The decision reflects the strong fraternal relations between the two countries’ leaderships and peoples, built on a long history of shared values, mutual respect, and a common vision for the future.
The Royal Order coincided with the UAE’s 54th Union Day celebrations, underscoring Bahrain’s commitment to sharing in the UAE’s national joy and recognizing its major achievements under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. These achievements have strengthened the UAE’s regional and international standing as a leading model of development.
The Mohammed bin Zayed Nature Reserve is one of Bahrain’s most important landmarks. Established in 1976 in the Southern Governorate, it was the first project of its kind in the region. The reserve aims to protect rare and endangered Arabian wildlife.
The reserve consists of two sections. The first is a protected area dedicated to conserving Bahrain’s native wildlife and is accessible only to specialists and researchers. It protects animals and plants unique to Bahrain’s environment, including the Arabian oryx, the Bahraini reem gazelle, and the markh plant.
The second section includes a public park focused on conserving and breeding Arabian animals and plants. It is open to group and individual visitors and features visitor facilities, rare plants, water and land birds, and a predator complex housing species such as the Arabian leopard, lions, white tigers, and cheetahs. It also includes a botanical garden showcasing plants from the Arabian Peninsula, North and East Africa, and South Asia.
