Bahrain Condemns Terrorist Bombing in Homs, Syria

The Kingdom of Bahrain strongly condemns and denounces the blatant terrorist attack that targeted the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Mosque in the city of Homs, Syria. The explosion, which struck the mosque’s main prayer hall during Friday prayers, resulted in the tragic death of at least eight people and left more than 18 others injured. The blast left the interior scorched and strewn with debris, forcing worshippers to flee in panic as smoke filled the sanctuary. While Syrian security forces have cordoned off the area to conduct a thorough investigation, local officials indicate that the devastation was likely the result of either a suicide bomber or a strategically planted explosive device. The militant group Saraya Ansar al-Sunna has since claimed responsibility for the atrocity, characterizing the strike as part of an ongoing escalation against the state.
Security experts and government officials view the bombing as a calculated attempt to incite sectarian violence and destabilize Syria’s fragile security environment, which has remained volatile since the fall of the Assad government. The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack as a "desperate attempt to undermine security," explicitly linking the violence to remnants of the former regime and ISIS militants intent on obstructing the country's political transition. This latest tragedy underscores the immense challenges currently facing the authorities in Damascus as they strive to consolidate control and cooperate with international alliances to eliminate extremist elements.
In a formal statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's unwavering solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic and its commitment to supporting Syrian security and stability in the face of terrorism. The Ministry reiterated the Kingdom's absolute rejection of the targeting of places of worship and the terrorization of innocent civilians, emphasizing that such acts constitute grave crimes that violate all religious and humanitarian principles. Extending its sincere condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Syria, as well as to the families of the victims, the Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its hopes for a speedy recovery for all those injured in the attack.
