Bahrain’s Southern Governorate Achieves WHO ‘Healthy Governorate’ Status
Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain marked a significant national achievement as the Southern Governorate was officially accredited by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a "Healthy Governorate." General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, received His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Southern Governor, and Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, to celebrate this milestone, which confirms the success of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's overarching vision for national prosperity and development.
This accreditation of the Southern Governorate completes the Kingdom’s goal of having all four governorates recognized under the WHO Healthy Cities initiative. The Minister of Interior affirmed that this collective success is the direct outcome of the wise directives of His Majesty the King, whose vision aims to achieve comprehensive sustainable development and elevate the quality of life for every citizen. The successful execution of these goals is further bolstered by the continuous follow-up and support provided by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.Minister of Health Dr. Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hassan highlighted that the accreditation stands as a prominent national achievement and a clear reflection of the Royal vision.
This success validates the effective implementation of the WHO Healthy Cities programme, which is a vital international framework that requires the successful execution of 80 criteria spanning health, environmental safety, and social well-being, confirming Bahrain’s commitment to placing the health and prosperity of its people at the forefront of its national agenda.
