The Bahrain National Theatre came alive as the Bahrain Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Maestro Dr. Mubarak Najem, welcomed students from public schools to a special two-day concert series, immersing them in the enchanting world of music.
An Opening That Captured Every Heart
From the moment the lights dimmed, the students were captivated. The orchestra opened with a gentle one-minute musical piece, immediately drawing applause and excited chatter from the young audience.
The Minister of Education, His Excellency Dr Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, personally greeted Maestro Najem on stage before the Bahrain national anthem was performed, signalling the official start of the concert. Maestro Najem then spoke to the students, emphasising the educational value of music and its power to inspire creativity and cultural appreciation. His remarks were met with enthusiastic and sustained applause.
An interactive educational segment followed, with Maestro Najem introducing the different sections of the orchestra—the strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion— and explaining the unique qualities of each instrument.
Students discovered how larger instruments produce softer, mellower sounds, while smaller instruments create brighter, sharper tones. He also demonstrated how a skilled musician blends these sounds into harmony, showcasing short musical pieces on the trumpet, piano, and violin.
Favourites That Lit Up the Theatre
The repertoire included international favourites, Bahraini compositions, and popular children’s film soundtracks. Highlights included short solo musical pieces such as “The French Harmony,” “Pink Panther,” “Game of Thrones,” “Happy Birthday to You,” and “Bella Ciao,” followed by full orchestral musical pieces, including patriotic Bahraini works and a variety of lively and serene arrangements such as “Popeye the Sailor Man” and “Tom and Jerry,” which delighted the audience.
The concert concluded with the Minister returning to the stage to personally thank Maestro Najem and the orchestra, expressing his appreciation to the students and media present.
The event offered an immersive and joyful musical experience, inspiring students and reinforcing the importance of arts education in nurturing creativity, cultural awareness, and a lifelong appreciation of beauty.
