Bahrain Cybercrime Prosecutor Cracks Down on Social Media Abuse

The Head of the Cybercrime Prosecution announced that the Public Prosecution has received a report through the Electronic Crimes Department of the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate for Anti-Corruption and Economic & Electronic Security. The complaint involved an individual who claimed to have been subjected to offensive language and the publication of immoral content on social media platforms.

Investigations revealed that the posts originated from a Gulf national known for repeatedly sharing content that violates public decency and societal norms. Acting on the findings, the Public Prosecution ordered the suspect’s arrest. During interrogation, the accused admitted to the allegations, explaining that his social media account is followed by thousands of users and that he regularly shares such content to gain notoriety.

Following the confession, the Public Prosecution ordered his preventive detention pending further investigation and seized his mobile phone for technical examination.

The Head of the Cybercrime Prosecution emphasized that the authorities are committed to taking strict legal action against anyone misusing social media or spreading content that violates public morals. She also urged the public to exercise legal and ethical responsibility online, adhere to the law, and respect societal norms.
