Bahrain Elevates Infrastructure to New Heights
His Excellency Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Vice Prime Minister, affirmed that Bahrain’s ongoing infrastructure modernization reflects the visionary guidance of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Prime Minister. These efforts aim to elevate government services, enhance operational efficiency, and support the Kingdom’s comprehensive development agenda to meet the aspirations of citizens.
During a visit to the Electricity and Water Authority’s (EWA) control center, His Excellency emphasized that the significant achievements across critical sectors, particularly electricity and water, result from coordinated national efforts and strategic investment in modern technologies. These initiatives ensure the continuity of services with high efficiency and reliability while optimizing resource management.
“Electricity and water are the lifeblood of Bahrain, central to the Kingdom’s urban, industrial, and civilizational development,” His Excellency stated. “Providing these services to all regions underscores the effectiveness of planning and operational systems in meeting the demands of rapid population and urban growth, thereby supporting sustainable development and laying a strong foundation for a prosperous future.”
During the visit to the control center in Al Hidd, His Excellency was welcomed by Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Chairman of EWA, Minister Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, and senior authority officials. He received a detailed briefing on the authority’s performance during the 2025 summer period, spanning May to September.
The presentation highlighted EWA’s achievements in operational readiness and reliability, made possible through early planning, integrated coordination among technical and administrative teams, and the adoption of smart digital solutions for monitoring and control.
His Excellency praised EWA staff for their dedication, professionalism, and team spirit, describing the results as a reflection of the “Team Bahrain” ethos and their commitment to translating national visions into high-quality, sustainable services.
Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed expressed his gratitude to the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for the government’s unwavering support, which enabled the authority to achieve exceptional operational results this year. He also thanked the Vice Prime Minister for his visit, underscoring the importance of ministerial oversight in monitoring the authority’s critical projects.
The 2025 summer performance report revealed substantial improvements: electricity outages decreased by 40.5% compared to last year, with 90% of faults restored in less than one hour. Global outage indicators showed unprecedented drops, with the number of network interruptions falling by 58.3% and the duration of outages by 57.5%, the lowest in five years.
Peak electricity demand reached 4,017 MW, an increase of 117 MW from last year, while production capacity stood at 5,044 MW, demonstrating the network’s readiness to meet rising summer demand.
The authority also recorded fewer water service interruptions and resolved reports within six hours, reflecting efficient network management and precise water distribution. More than 27 services were redesigned, boosting digital channel usage by 7% and reducing call center traffic by 12%. Advanced AI technologies were employed to streamline field operations and restore electricity faster, complemented by the launch of a unified digital portal to enhance electronic service adoption.
