Bahrain Calls for Stronger Global Parliamentary Support for Gaza Relief

Speaker of Bahrain’s Council of Representatives, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, called on all member countries of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to recognize the State of Palestine and to support the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination and an end to the occupation.

Speaking during a meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group in Geneva, Al Musallam stressed the urgent need to deliver humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza, saying that international cooperation is vital to ease the suffering of civilians affected by the war.

He also underlined the importance of supporting peace efforts based on the two-state solution, in line with international resolutions. Al Musallam said that Arab parliaments continue to work together to build a unified stance that supports issues important to Arab countries and their people.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. It was chaired by Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sheikh, Speaker of Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council, and attended by Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, along with other Arab parliamentary leaders.

Al Musallam reaffirmed Bahrain’s firm position in supporting the Palestinian cause and its commitment to strengthening cooperation among Arab parliaments. He added that discussions during these coordination meetings reflect a shared sense of responsibility to promote Arab causes and encourage joint decisions among global parliaments.

Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, member of the IPU Executive Committee and representative of the Arab Group, presented a report on the union’s recent programs and reviewed the agenda for the upcoming Governing Council session.
