Bahrain and Italy Strengthen Space Cooperation with New MoU
During the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, to the Italian Republic, Bahrain and Italy announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bahrain Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The agreement aims to deepen bilateral collaboration in peaceful space exploration, capacity building, and joint project implementation, reflecting the strong strategic ties between the two friendly nations.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Asiri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency, highlighted that the MoU marks a continuation of nearly eight years of close cooperation between the two agencies. He described the agreement as a significant step in strengthening Bahrain’s presence in the global space industry. “Space diplomacy plays a vital role in fostering international collaboration, building bridges between nations, and opening doors to new economic and technological opportunities. It also facilitates the transfer and localization of advanced knowledge and technologies, benefiting both countries’ economies,” Dr. Al Asiri stated.
The signing of this MoU builds on the partnership established in 2018, which has already yielded remarkable achievements. Notably, Bahrain successfully hosted the sixth edition of the International Space Forum at the ministerial level (Gulf section) in July 2024, themed “Space as a Driver of Diplomacy and Economic Development in the Region.” This was the first forum of its kind in the Gulf region and marked a milestone in regional and international space cooperation, translating the partnership with the Italian Space Agency into practical results.
