Indian Club’s ‘Aavani’ Onam Fiesta Begins with Thiruvathira Competition

The Indian Club’s ‘Aavani – The Indian Club Onam Fiesta 2025’ has officially begun, bringing a vibrant cultural celebration to Bahrain’s Indian community
The second day of the festival, held on Wednesday, September 24, featured a highly anticipated Thiruvathira Competition, a traditional Onam dance performed by ladies.
A total of five teams participated in the spirited contest. Team SNCS bagged the first prize followed by Seven Arts Cultural Forum and Dashapusham.
The ‘Aavani Onam Fiesta’ continues with a series of exciting events open to the public.
The upcoming schedule includes a Pookalam (floral display) Competition today (September 26) at 10am, followed by a Payasam competition at 6:30 pm.
Conclusion
The evening will conclude with an Onapudava Competition and the VIBES-Onam Musical Bonanza by Team Sitar.
An official ceremony will precede a Mega Musical Show featuring renowned artists Abid Anwar & Divya Nair, starting at 7:30 pm on 2nd October.
A Tug of War competition kicks off at 5:30 pm, followed by a Ghoshayatra (a procession depicting Kerala’s folklore and costumes) and ‘Sharudhaya – Nadan Pattukal’ (traditional folk songs) on 3rd October.
Onasadhya
The festivities will culminate with a traditional Onasadhya (feast) on Friday, October 10.
The feast, which will serve up to 3,500 people, will feature 29 distinct items prepared by the celebrated sadhya specialist, Jayan Sukumara Pillai, and will be served on a traditional banana leaf.
