Bahraini MP Jalal Kazem Al-Mahfoud has submitted a proposal to extend the cost-of-living allowance to Bahraini women married to citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, provided they reside permanently in Bahrain. The move aims to promote gender equality and social justice by offering these women the same support as other Bahraini citizens.
Al-Mahfoud explained that the proposal comes after observing the struggles of many Bahraini families facing rising living costs and economic pressures. Currently, this group of women does not receive the allowance, despite carrying the responsibility of supporting their households.
He emphasized that Bahraini women married to GCC nationals are as connected to their homeland as other citizens. They share the same responsibilities, including raising children and covering household expenses, which warrants fair treatment and government support—especially given the increasing costs of living and daily needs.
Al-Mahfoud added that including these women in the cost-of-living allowance program would be a positive step toward strengthening social protection and ensuring all citizens benefit from government support programs. He highlighted that improving citizens’ living standards is a key principle promoted by Bahrain’s leadership within the country’s development strategies.
He concluded by affirming that the legislative authority will continue its efforts to support citizens in coping with rising prices and to provide dignified living conditions for all Bahraini families.
