MP Abdulwahid Qarata, along with four other lawmakers, has submitted a proposal urging that security guard positions in state facilities and government establishments be reserved exclusively for Bahraini citizens.

Qarata emphasized that work is both a fundamental right and a national duty guaranteed by the Constitution, and that the state should ensure fair employment opportunities for its citizens.

He explained that security guard roles serve as the first line of defense in protecting vital government facilities and public institutions. Since these positions do not require advanced academic qualifications, they present a suitable opportunity for young Bahrainis to enter the workforce.

“Reserving these jobs for citizens will strengthen national loyalty, make Bahrainis active partners in protecting their country, reduce unemployment, and decrease dependence on foreign labor,” Qarata said. He added that this approach also supports community security, reinforces citizenship values and discipline, and provides social and economic stability for youth.

Qarata highlighted that empowering citizens to take on these responsibilities reflects the country’s civilized image, strengthens national identity, and aligns with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainability, competitiveness, and fairness.

“This initiative responds to the Constitution and the state’s priorities, while also promoting social stability and citizens’ confidence in their ability to serve their homeland,” Qarata concluded.

The proposal was co-signed by MPs Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Hisham Al-Awadhi, Hisham Al-Ashiri, and Mohsen Al-Asbol.
