Bahrain is taking another step toward providing comprehensive healthcare for all residents. The Tender Board is preparing to launch a new tender to select an insurance company to manage and implement the mandatory health package for residents, known as the “Hakeem Program.”
The winning insurance company will be responsible for offering quality health coverage and managing the benefits included in the five-year mandatory health plan. The tender is scheduled to be opened on August 4, with the Supreme Council of Health overseeing the selection process.
According to earlier statements from the Supreme Council of Health, the program is expected to start before the end of 2025.
The “Hakeem Program” aims to ensure that all residents have access to high-quality primary, secondary, and emergency healthcare services. It also encourages private sector participation, promotes efficient use of resources, and secures the financial sustainability of Bahrain’s health system.
Additionally, the initiative will support healthcare providers in obtaining local and international accreditations, while strengthening governance and licensing frameworks to maintain high service standards.
