Bahrain Joins Arab-Islamic Nations in Condemning Israeli Move Over West Bank
The Kingdom of Bahrain, along with a group of Arab and Islamic countries, has strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s decision to approve a declaration calling for the imposition of so-called "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank.
In a joint statement, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Nigeria, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the UAE, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation said the move is a clear violation of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 242, 338, and 2334. These resolutions reject any attempt to legitimize Israeli occupation or settlement expansion on Palestinian land occupied since 1967.
The statement stressed that Israel has no legal authority over the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and that this unilateral step has no legal impact. The countries warned that such actions only worsen tensions in the region, especially amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza and its severe humanitarian consequences.
Bahrain and the other signatories called on the international community, especially the UN Security Council, to take responsibility and act to stop Israel’s illegal practices. They emphasized the need to protect the chances for peace and preserve the two-state solution.
The statement concluded with a renewed commitment to establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international law and the Arab Peace Initiative.
