Bahrain Backs Qatari Nominee for Asian Olympic Council Presidency

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, reaffirmed Bahrain’s continued support for Gulf sports leaders taking on international roles.
He emphasized that such backing aligns with the shared vision of Gulf cooperation in sports, which aims to empower talented individuals from the region to hold prominent positions on regional, continental, and global platforms.
Shaikh Khalid announced Bahrain’s support for the candidacy of His Excellency Shaikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, for the presidency of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). He described Shaikh Joaan as a distinguished sports figure in the Gulf with a proven track record of international achievements. Known for his strong leadership, reputation, and extensive experience, Shaikh Joaan currently serves as the First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), among other key positions.
Shaikh Khalid praised Shaikh Joaan’s strategic vision for leading the OCA, which focuses on development, promoting collaboration in governance and sports administration, and strengthening the infrastructure and institutional capacities of member national Olympic committees.
He also highlighted the strong and brotherly ties between Bahrain and Qatar, especially in the sports sector, and wished Shaikh Joaan every success in the upcoming elections, expressing confidence in his ability to represent the Gulf and Arab world at the helm of Asian sports.
