Bahrain’s longest-running community health campaign marked its 27th edition on Friday with a new digital touch and a strong turnout of donors, honouring a tradition rooted in faith and public service.
The Imam Hussain (PBUH) Blood Donation Campaign, launched under the slogan ‘Blood in Your Name’, collected 64 blood bags on its women-only opening day, while the second day for men saw a significantly larger response.
Drive
Organised by the residents of Al-Naeem and the campaign’s Supreme Committee, the drive continues to stand as a symbol of collective humanitarian action during Muharram.
Held in partnership with Al Hilal Healthcare Group for the second year, the campaign was hosted at the group’s Manama Central branch.
Dr. Fadel Al-Nasheet, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health for its ongoing support, particularly under the leadership of the minister, H.E. Dr. Jaleela bint Al-Sayed Jawad Hassan.
This year, a new digital appointment system was introduced to streamline the donation process.
Consultations
According to Al-Nasheet, the move followed consultations with local officials and civil society groups to improve donor access and operational efficiency.
Dr. Sharat Chandran, CEO of Al Hilal Healthcare Group, said the campaign reflects the true spirit of community partnership and has become a permanent fixture in the group’s annual commitments.
Since 2000, the campaign has donated over 16,526 blood bags to the Central Blood Bank, cementing its legacy as one of Bahrain’s most impactful grassroots health initiatives.
