The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture is preparing to resume its campaign to sterilize stray dogs through surgical neutering.

A new tender is expected to be issued this month, inviting veterinary companies to take part in a comprehensive program aimed at managing the stray dog population in a humane and sustainable way.

The campaign, which initially began in 2018, was paused about a year ago. Now, the ministry is reviving its efforts to tackle the growing number of stray dogs while ensuring animal welfare and public health.

The ministry said the key goals of the project include:

Reducing the number of stray dogs
Limiting the spread of diseases
Improving the overall health and wellbeing of these animals

The new tender will cover:

Surgical sterilization procedures
Tagging dogs using ear marks or other identification methods
Post-surgery care and monitoring
The project also involves hiring veterinary staff, providing medical equipment and supplies, and setting up proper facilities to house the animals before and after surgery.

Municipalities across Bahrain are participating in this initiative as part of their efforts to control stray animal populations and reduce health risks, especially in residential areas. The program includes neutering male dogs and spaying females, along with providing them necessary veterinary care.
