Rising heat and crowd safety drove urgent discussions yesterday, as organisers of hospitality booths from across Bahrain gathered to prepare for this year’s Ashoora commemorations.

The yearly meeting, hosted by the Eastern Karbabad Matam, attracted delegates from all of the kingdom’s governorates. Organised by the Jaffaria Waqf Directorate (JWD), the event featured key briefings from the Health Ministry, Civil Defence and the Nabdat Hayat (Pulse of Life) volunteer team.

Civil Defence representative Hassan Radhi emphasised the need for vigilance, particularly with Ashoora coinciding with the height of summer.

Public awareness

Radhi set out essential safety measures for booths and public spaces, adding that Civil Defence had begun rolling out a public awareness campaign alongside Jaafari Waqf and community groups.

Dr Mohammed Al Awadhi, Public Health Director at the Health Ministry, explained the healthcare preparations for Ashoora, outlining plans for the Imam Hussain Clinic, awareness campaigns and site inspections.

Ibrahim Mohammed Jawad provided practical guidance on food hygiene, clearly setting out proper methods for preparation and storage to keep the public safe.

First-aid advice

Trainer Mohammed Ashour, from Nabdat Hayat, shared valuable first-aid advice, highlighting the importance of basic life support skills, especially among volunteers responsible for managing large gatherings.

His goal, Ashour noted, was building greater emergency preparedness across local communities.

The meeting ended with organisers invited to share feedback and suggestions, followed by the annual distribution of official renewal stickers for licensed hospitality booths (known locally as madheef ).

Cooperation

Yusuf bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of JWD, thanked the attendees for their continued cooperation, praising their adherence to health and safety standards.

He credited organisers’ dedication for upholding the values associated with Ashoora, adding his appreciation to Eastern Karbabad Matam for again hosting the event.

“This gathering is essential in making certain the commemorations run safely and smoothly,” Al Saleh said, noting the generous backing of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
