A convicted thief is back in court after allegedly breaking into a home, stealing gold jewellery and an ID card, and using the stolen identity to offload the loot at a gift and watch shop.
The High Criminal Court has delayed proceedings until 22 June to allow time for a lawyer to be appointed.
The man, aged 38, is accused of presenting a valid identity card belonging to someone else in order to sell the stolen jewellery.
Prosecutors say he forged a gold sale receipt by scribbling a false signature in the victim’s name and handed the document to the shop while fully aware it was fake.
Charges
He also faces charges of stealing personal belongings and cash, and of using another person’s car without consent.
The defendant, who has a long record of similar offences, is no stranger to the criminal courts.
One victim said he returned home to find his place broken into and his bank card and gold items missing.
A total of BD800 and 800 fils had been withdrawn from his account. Another man told the court he too had been burgled. The thief took his wallet, which contained his ID and bank cards, from his home in Image used for illustrative purposes only the Southern Governorate.
