Foreign doctors’ expertise utilised

The Ministry of Health has shown its commitment during 2015 by providing primary healthcare services through its 28 health centres. The number of visitors to these centres has touched four million during the same period, a report says.

Secondary care is provided at seven specialised hospitals. In treatment and rehabilitation services, Salmaniya Medical Complex is considered the biggest with 1,100 beds and 1,000-1,500 patients visiting daily. 

The Accidents and Emergency Department also receives 1,000-1,200 patients daily and 120 patients are admitted in separate wings of the hospital daily.

The ministry has promised to provide the latest technology and qualified medical expertise with the aim of raising the quality of treatment. 

It also supported the provision of various health projects such as building hereditary blood disease centre and the expansion of emergency service at Salmaniya Medical Complex.

Many cooperation agreements were also signed by the Health Ministry with a group of countries specialised in the health field in order to strengthen the cooperation, either by sending patients to these countries or bringing in their doctors to the Kingdom.

Since January till December 15, the ministry has brought in 13 doctors to the Kingdom, according to the various needs of the patients and they did some 99 operations in orthopaedic, plastic surgery, liver transplantation, neurosurgery and ENT departments.

The visiting doctors have also conducted examinations and workshop in the areas of dental programmes and surgical procedures provided to the administrative sections and other sections of the SMC.

The specialised doctors came from  Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Lebanon, Sudan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Malaysia, India and Turkey.
