Santiago: Chile and Uruguay reached an agreement to boost cooperation in the war against drug cartels and organised crime, as both countries become increasingly concerned about the spread of transnational criminal networks in South America.
During bilateral talks, officials discussed greater intelligence sharing, coordinated law enforcement operations, and stronger border security measures to disrupt drug trafficking routes and dismantle criminal organisations operating throughout the region.
The presidents affirmed their commitment to working together against organised crime, stating that improved regional collaboration is required to combat drug gangs' increasingly sophisticated operations. They also emphasised the necessity of collaborative efforts to ensure public safety and prevent the development of criminal violence. The summit is held amid a number of South American nations look to work together more closely to fight organised crime and cross-border drug trafficking.
