The Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture have reaffirmed their preparedness to handle water pooling on main and internal roads across Bahrain. Their objective is to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain the efficiency of the stormwater drainage and sewage networks.
The Ministry of Works emphasized its ongoing efforts in infrastructure maintenance, including the cleaning of stormwater drainage outlets, servicing of rainwater pumping stations across all governorates, and regular clearing of open channels and collection tanks. These measures aim to prevent blockages caused by accumulated dust, agricultural debris, and general waste such as plastic bags and paper, which can reduce drainage effectiveness during heavy rainfall.
Additionally, the ministry urged citizens and residents to refrain from opening manhole covers of the sewage network, particularly during rainy periods, as this can lead to street flooding, disrupt traffic, and cause environmental and health hazards.
The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture reiterated its commitment to enhancing coordination among relevant departments, including the Capital Municipality, local municipalities, and municipal councils. Emergency rain response teams have been mobilized under a structured action plan, with designated mechanisms to prioritize and address reported incidents. The ministry is also ensuring that necessary equipment, such as pumps and tankers, is readily available to manage emergency situations.
Efforts are also being made to maintain rainwater drainage infrastructure by removing weeds and debris from drainage channels and addressing water accumulation points in coordination with municipal councils.
For public convenience, hotlines have been designated for reporting rainwater accumulation:
Main Roads: 17545544
Internal Roads: 80008188
