A landmark shift in Bahrain’s digital identity framework was unveiled yesterday as the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) and Beyon Connect introduced eKey 2.0 at a high-profile event at the Gulf Hotel.

The new identity verification system, backed by biometric authentication, was described as a pivotal leap in digital security by iGA Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al-Qaed.

He emphasised that eKey 2.0 aligns with Bahrain’s government directives and Economic Vision 2030, ensuring seamless access to public and private services while eliminating passwords.

Beyon Connect’s CEO, Christopher Hild, highlighted the system’s role in fortifying authentication across banking, telecoms, and healthcare. By integrating biometric security and user-controlled data sharing, eKey 2.0 offers a transparent, efficient, and compliant solution for identity verification.

The upgraded system is initially linked to over 14 government and private entities, including the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), banks, and telecom firms. More integrations will follow in later phases.

Early adopters such as Batelco, Binance, and National Bank of Bahrain were recognised for their commitment to Bahrain’s digital future.

Citizens and residents are encouraged to download the eKey 2.0 app from bahrain.bh/ apps to enhance their digital experience securely.
