A Bahraini family experienced an unexpected encounter recently when a large eagle landed in their garden in the village of Al Maqsha.
The family, initially startled by the unexpected visitor, quickly took action to help the distressed animal.
According to Yusuf Ahmed, an animal welfare activist, the injured eagle was too weak to fly following its injury, resulting in landing in the home garden.
“A family member provided food and covered the bird with a cloth before carefully transporting it to the Al Areen Wildlife Park. The Park officials then contacted the Supreme Council for the Environment and other relevant authorities to ensure the eagle received the necessary care,” Ahmed said.
“A team from the Supreme Council for the Environment and Al Areen Wildlife Park subsequently collected the eagle. The bird was transferred to the Falcon Hospital at Al Areen Wildlife Park for examination and treatment,” he added.
Ahmed explained that eagles are protected birds, and their sale, trade, or keeping as pets is strictly prohibited.
He noted that winter is the migratory season for birds of prey, and exhausted birds may occasionally land in residential areas.
“Citizens and residents to report any sightings of injured or distressed migratory birds of prey to the relevant authorities. Illegal hunting, sale, or trade of eagles, carry legal consequences,” he warned.
