Law proposed to establish fund to support students
A group of lawmakers has demanded the Government to establish a fund to support Bahraini students who are financially incapable of continuing their studies.
This was mentioned in a press statement issued by the Council of Representatives yesterday. According to the statement, Parliament First Deputy Chairman Ali Al Aradi and MPs Ghazi Al Rahma, Jalal Kadhem, Hamad Al Dossary and Mohsen Al Bakry had submitted a law proposal to establish the “Students’ Support Fund”.
The proposal stipulates that “the Government should establish a fund to financially support Bahraini students through scholars and studying programmes under Education Ministry.”
The MPs said the official body’s board members should consist of Education Ministry’s Undersecretary as the Chairperson, and representatives of Works and Social Development Ministry, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, University of Bahrain (UoB) and other accredited universities in the Kingdom as board members.
They added that the membership period should be for four renewable years.
The lawmakers suggested in their proposal that the new body should be funded by the State’s budget and charity.
“The Students’ Support Fund would focus on setting a national strategy to benefit all Bahraini students, who are unable to continue their higher studies due to financial difficulties,” the legislators explained.
They added that corporate and establishments should also be urged to support the students’ fund.
Also an annual report of the fund’s works should be submitted, they stated.
“All Bahraini students who wish to continue their higher studies in accredited local universities or abroad should benefit from the services of the fund,” the legislators added in the statement.
The lawmakers said the law proposal comes to support needy Bahraini families to enable their children continue higher studies and progress in their academic and professional lives.
